Draft George Town Structure Plan May 2021

Council is pleased to present the Draft George Town Structure Plan May 2021

The Draft George Structure Plan May 2021 is now open for public comment from the 9am on the 22nd May 2021 and will close at 4pm on the 22nd June 2021

What is a Structure Plan?  A Structure Plan is a high-level document which will be a decision-making tool for the Council. It will be a road map of where to build new houses, the areas that should be protected from development, and where investment is required (roads, footpaths, cycling trails, parks, beaches, sporting facilities, art sculptures and the like).

The aim of the George Town Structure Plan is to create residential areas where it is easy and safe to walk to parks, shops (where possible), foreshore, catch public transport to Launceston or go on a bike ride. The George Town Structure Plan proposes to link neighbourhoods via walking and cycling trails.

Improving the quality of our footpaths to make them easier to use and creating off-road trails is a big focus of the George Town Structure Plan. The aim is to create walking and cycling loops within your neighbourhoods to discourage the use of the car for short trips.

The George Town Council is interested in how you use the walking network and public spaces in your neighbourhood. Do you walk or ride from your home to other places in George Town? Do you ride or walk to the foreshore or a park?

Council invites the general public for consultation and have developed a number of opportunities for the community to have input into the Draft George Town Structure Plan May 2021.
