Mountain bike trails a step closer in bid to boost George Town economy

By Damian McIntyre and Piia Wirsu It is anticipated that the construction of mountain bike trails at George Town in northern Tasmania will kickstart the area's economy.

Eighty kilometres of trails at Mount George and the Tippogoree Hills are a step closer after the local council released a tender to design and build the tracks.  Mayor Greg Kieser said he hoped work on the $4.4 million project would start in October. 

"We're very much saying to them they're building an absolute world-class mountain-biking facility that will complement what Derby and St Helens have achieved," he said.
