New Residents

Welcome to George Town

George Town Councillors and staff are delighted to welcome you to our beautiful region.

Residents can take advantage of a choice of urban, rural or seaside lifestyles.

Prime waterfront housing offering panoramic vistas of the Tamar River and access to foreshore recreation areas are in plentiful supply, whilst a range of affordable housing caters for all preferences.

A full range of primary and secondary schooling is supported by transport to Launceston for further studies while a home-based child care centre and playgroups provide for the needs of families with younger children.

A variety of organised sports, both indoor and outdoor are offered, and numerous community groups meet regularly, catering for other social interests.

Full time medical practices and a local division of the Launceston General Hospital, all based in the town, service the area.

Attractive aged accommodation from independent living units through to home care is available and these are supplemented by recreation and other support services for seniors. The flat terrain and ready access to all facilities provide the elderly with a wonderful relaxed lifestyle in retirement.

Whatever your needs or interests, George Town has something to offer.  We look forward to getting to know you!
