FREE DISPOSAL DAYS - HARD & GREEN WASTE 9th & 10th NOVEMBER

George Town Council is offering  free hard waste and green waste disposal days at both the George Town and Pipers River Waste Transfer Stations for residential loads only. It is important that hard waste NOT be combined in the SAME load as ANY OTHER WASTE-  general household or green waste!

Proof of residency by way of rates notice or photo identification will be required.  No restriction will be placed on the number of visits to either of the facilities on the free days.  This service is strictly available for residential waste only.

Commercial loads will be charged standard rates.

What is accepted as hard waste?

Hard waste is large items that cannot fit in a regular bin and are usually quite large.

Items like:

  • fridges
  • washing machines
  • couches
  • cupboards
  • wardrobes
  • televisions
  • furniture
  • computers
  • mattresses.

 These items WILL NOT be accepted as HARD WASTE

  • Household rubbish – Waste that would normally go in your kerbside bins
  • Recycling – Plastics, Paper and cardboard, Glass bottles, Polystyrene etc
  • Green waste
  • All fencing wire (including chicken wire)
  • Glass – Windows, windscreens etc
  • Building waste including glass, loose rubble, bricks, concrete, soil, sand and roofing iron
  • Tyres
  • Gas bottles
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Hazardous and toxic waste including asbestos and ashes.
  • Any item longer than 1.5 metres (excluding mattresses and furniture)
  • Chemicals or liquids, including engine oil
  • Commercial or business waste
  • Engine blocks, car batteries, or any other car parts
  • Paint, fuel tins
  • Vegetable matter
