Healthy George Town - Funded to 2021

16 Dec 2019

George Town Council is pleased to announce that their application to Healthy Tasmania Large Grants 2019 has been successful, acquiring $194,945 to fund years two and three of the Healthy George Town program.

Healthy George Town was launched in October this year.  Funded through both State and Federal government bodies, the program delivered a broad suite of health and wellbeing programs free to the community.  The program has been overwhelmingly embraced by the community and the announcement of future funding for the program to continue for a further two years will excite existing and inspire new participants.  The programs are set to continue again in Feb/Mar 2020.

General Manager Shane Power said “This is fantastic news for George Town, this program has been extremely successful from its launch in October 2019, with a diverse cohort of residents participating in a broad range of health and wellbeing activities hosted by local service providers. George Town Council is committed to the delivery of the Healthy George Town program and aims for long term positive outcomes that will benefit our community.  Council will continue to evolve the program over the coming years to ensure that minorities or disempowered groups are encouraged to participate ensuring the program is all inclusive”
