Are you a young person with a creative flair, a local artist, a graphic designer or passionate about a waste free community?

Want to win great prizes?

Then this might be the competition you are looking for, George Town Council is holding a competition to find an amazing design to be placed on the Council’s garbage truck.

This truck collects waste from within the George Town municipality, this competition provides a fantastic opportunity to have your artwork on show.

Council is looking for unique designs based on - “What does a waste free Tasmania look like?”

There are many activities and initiatives that are fighting the war on waste, like

  • recycling
  • up cycling
  • reusing
  • plastic free
  • repurposing
  • composting to name a few

You may have your own ideas on what you would like to showcase in your design.  Your entry should address the concept of eradication of ‘waste materials’ and raise awareness of waste consumption.

 Prizes

Major prize winner will receive a $500 George Town 'Why Leave Town' EFTPOS card and artwork displayed on truck.

Runner-up; individual, class or group entries will receive a collection of games. (Game collections may consist of; Pass the Pen, Trapped Penguin, Chinese Checkers, Make your own Mythical Creature, Monopoly, Scrabble, Dog Doctor, Game of Life, Rubik’s Race, Cosmic Galaxy Soap, Soggy Doggy, Build your own Solar House, Pop-N-Hop, Honey Bee Buzz or Baa Baa Bubbles)

Eligibility - Terms & Conditions:

  • Artists must be 21 years and under.
  • Can be completed as individuals, pairs, groups or classes.
  • All entries must be 100% original and uncopied artworks.
  • Multiple entries from an artist are acceptable.
  • Your artwork must be no smaller than A4 size. 
  • All entries must be artworks that are available for acquisition by George Town Council in exchange for the prize amount of $500.
  • The major prize winner and runner-up recipients will grant George Town Council an exclusive copyright licence to reproduce their entered works for a period of five years from the closing date of entries. Reproductions of their works will be used for media/promotional material, online and any reproductions will be related to the PRIZE, and will not be used for commercial purposes.
  • By entering, you give permission for your child's or your own artwork to be displayed online with first name and age.
  • It is open to using multiple applications, freestyle, pens, pencils, textas, crayons, paint OR digital design software/apps.
  • There will be one major prize winner and six runner-up prize winners.
  • Promotion commences 12am on Monday 6th July 2020 and entries close at 11.59pm on Tuesday 11th August 2020.
  • Entry is only open to George Town Municipality residents.
  • Original artwork must be submitted to Council reception. Alternatively, if the entrant has created a digital design, email it to council@georgetown.tas.gov.au.
  • All entries require a name, age, address and phone number of entrant.
  • All entrants will be advised by George Town Council via email and / or phone as to whether or not they have been selected as a prize winner.
  • Prize winners will be announced on Facebook and on the GTC Kids Activity Portal by Wednesday 19th August 2020.
  • Prizes are not transferable for cash or exchange.
  • The entries will be put to a panel of judges, consisting of Mayor Greg Kieser, Deputy Mayor Tim Harris and members of the Placemaking Committee.
  • Winners must provide identification on collection of prizes. Any winner under the age of 18, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when claiming any of the prizes.
  • The promoter is George Town Council.
  • Entry into the competition is deemed acceptance of these conditions of entry.
