ROAD TRAFFIC CONTROL AND PART ROAD CLOSURE INDUSTRY ROAD JANUARY TO APRIL 2020

16 Jan 2020

George Town Council is undertaking works to widen three bridges on Industry Road, 800m from the Dalrymple Road intersection. The works have been undertaken to improve road safety and a safer passage for two-way traffic flow.

Andrew Walter Constructions (AWC) has been awarded the work contract which is expected to be completed in April. This work will be undertaken Monday to Friday, between 7am and 5pm, weather permitting.

Due to the current road conditions AWC will be working under traffic lights and reduced speed limits which may affect travel times. Please adhere to the signed speed limits and follow the directions of the traffic controllers and/or signs.

There are some aspects of the work which will require the road to be closed to through traffic.  These activities include but not limited to pile driving and placing the new bridge decks. These activities will be communicated to the community when the exact dates are known.

Pile driving activities have been scheduled and will be carried out between Tuesday 21st and Thursday 23rd January, between the hours of 8:30am and 4:00pm. During these times the road will be closed to through traffic for extended periods (in excess of 30 minutes at a time) and we encourage road users to seek an alternate route.

AWC will have traffic controllers positioned at the intersections at either end of Industry Road advising road users that the road is closed. We are working with AWC to try to minimise impacts on road users and allow for travel to be as unimpeded as possible. If you are travelling to your property during these times, we would advise  to speak with  our traffic controllers advising them that you are a local resident and do not intend to drive through the road works..
