2021-2022 Budget Submission Now Open

12 Jan 2021

Over the coming months Council will prepare a responsible budget for the 2021/2022 financial year.

As you would be aware, the past year has provided Council and the community with numerous challenges, not the least the setting of a deficit budget for 2020/2021.  The past year has also seen many opportunities, achievements and the continuation of exciting projects within our municipal area. During this time, Council also adopted the Community Strategic Plan 2020-2030,  the common purpose of which is “that, in all we do, we will foster the development of progressive, prosperous and proud communities throughout the George Town Municipal Area”.

The 2021/2022 budget will aim to maintain service levels for the provision of almost 100 services to the community and will look to  provide for assets renewal in line with the Long Term Financial Plan and Asset Management Plans. The ongoing effects of the 2020/2021 deficit budget will again make this a challenging budget, in setting the 2021/2022 the aim will be to return Council to a surplus position in the coming years.

The submission form is to be completed and each submission will be assessed against the priorities in Council’s Community Strategic Plan, which is available on Council’s website.  https://georgetown.tas.gov.au/strategies

Submissions are now open and will close 19 February 2021 at 5.00pm, with the draft budget to be presented for consideration in June 2021.

Completed submissions may be lodged via email to council@georgetown.tas.gov.au or post to George Town Council, PO Box 161 George Town, Tasmania 7253 for consideration.
