Access to East Beach Temporarily Closed

15 Nov 2021

The main access to East Beach near the public toilets will be closed to the public from Monday 15 November for the next few months, to build an all-inclusive and accessible recreation picnic area and associated car park.

George Town Council has appointed a local contractor to build this exciting project which includes a new 8x8m Picnic Shelter and a new 5x5m Picnic Shelter with wind protection walls, two accessible picnic tables and an accessible electric BBQ.  Low lighting will be provided to allow passive surveillance at night and a new boardwalk will provide all abilities access to the beach allowing visitor access to enjoy the environment. As a result, the existing access to this section of East Beach must be closed for the safety of beach visitors.

The work area will be cordoned off with fencing to prevent access to the work site for visitors’ safety.  The beach will remain open and beach visitors are encouraged to use the alternative accesses.

Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.
