George Town Council Celebrates NAIDOC Week 2021

30 Jun 2021

George Town Council will celebrate NAIDOC Week 2021 with a Flag Raising Ceremony, Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony in front of the Memorial Hall, Macquarie Street, George Town. At the end of the ceremony we invite attendees for a yarn, with morning tea in the Memorial Hall Foyer.

The Welcome to Country will be presented by our Indigenous Community and students from the South George Town Primary School.
The NAIDOC Week theme for 2021 is Heal Country, heal our nation.

Heal Country – calls for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.

Lets celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

We invite you to join us at our ceremony to recognise NAIDOC Week
