New Opportunities for Tourism and Hospitality Businesses

18 Mar 2021

On the 16th March the Premier announced a number of initiatives to support the tourism industry in the State of the State Parliamentary address.

He recognised the tourism industry's leadership through T21 to become a Carbon Neutral Destination and announced a target for Tasmania to achieve this goal by 2025. The government will support businesses to start the journey, with $1.5 million in funding for tourism operators to complete a carbon audit and formulate a pathway to achieve a standard of operation that will be globally recognised.

Further initiatives include:

  • $8 million in innovation and development grants to enable key projects across the state to be realised.
  • $4 million to provide direct financial support to tourism and hospitality businesses that are identified as critical to regional visitor attraction.
  • $1 million support program for travel agents
  • $500,000 to extend business planning support
  • $1.5 million to contribute to the sustainability of events in regional areas in a Regional Events Recovery Fund.

This is in addition to Tourism Tasmania's significant investment in its winter campaign activity to generate demand and drive visitation over the cooler months to support industry recovery.
