Regent Square Official Opening of the Basketball Half-Court

The Regent Square Redevelopment Project largely funded by the Australian Government, is progressing well in establishing a regionally significant central park, which has been designed to be enjoyed by locals and visitors of all ages and abilities year round.

 The area offers a purpose-built play area that hosts multiple apparatus including a flying fox and trampolines for kids of various age groups.  It has definitely been a fantastic activation point for George Town, occupying families for hours on end, there is something for everyone.  If the current facilities weren’t enough, Council has now installed a three-quarter sized- basketball court which completes the playground development in Regent Square.

 George Town Council’s Mayor Greg Keiser said, “The court was identified as a need and priority of the community when Council undertook public consultation on the development of Regent Square and today marks the official opening of the basketball court” 

 “Council is extremely happy with the facilities the children’s playground offers the community and the new basketball court facility is one that many children, adolescents, and parents have been eagerly awaiting.  We believe this addition will be as popular as the other facilities and amenities showcased in this amazing playground” he said.

Mrs Bridget Archer MP Federal Member for Bass, said the basketball court provides a new space for the community to socialise, have fun and be active.

“With the completed Pump Track also recently opening to the public, George Town locals of all ages can take advantage of another top-notch facility that is free and accessible to all,” Mrs Archer said.

The remaining space will include new pathways, carparking, toilet facilities, Aboriginal gathering space, park furniture, landscaping, parking areas, story boarding of indigenous and colonial history, a showpiece entrance feature and much more.
