Mount George Semaphore Mast Repairs

08 Dec 2023

Two reports have recently been prepared as to the condition of the Mount George Semaphore Mast. The mast has been found to be in extremely poor condition, severely decayed in sections and is a safety concern therefore, it is closed to the public.

On Tuesday, 12th of December, work will commence to lower and disassemble the mast so that the timber section can be replicated and replaced. The existing Douglas Fir Semaphore replica mast will be replaced with a new turpentine timber pole lasting up to 50 years. It is expected that these works will take months to be completed.

We understand the Semaphore is an important part of our history and want to ensure it is maintained for future generations to enjoy.
