Reconciliation Action Plan
In November 2022, George Town Council adopted its inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP); this plan has been developed in partnership with representatives of our local Aboriginal community.
Our RAP enables us to sustainably and strategically take meaningful action to advance reconciliation. It outlines the actions which will drive our organisation to contribute to reconciliation within our community.

Walking into Council Offices on Anne Street, you will see a large copy of the Uluru Statement from the Heart on display. Displaying the Uluru Statement from the Heart is an action as part of our Reconciliation Action Plan.
“The Uluru Statement from the Heart is an invitation to the Australian people from First Nations Australians. It asks Australians to walk together to build a better future by establishing a First Nations Voice to Parliament enshrined in the Constitution, and the establishment of a Makarrata Commission for the purpose of treaty making and truth-telling.
