Solstice in the Square is a unique winter celebration held in the heart of George Town, Tasmania. Established in 2024, the event brings the community together to embrace the magic and mystery of the winter solstice, the longest night of the year.
Each June, Regent Square and Memorial Hall transform into a vibrant gathering place filled with firelight, live music, art, food, and creative expression. Inspired by the ancient traditions of solstice celebrations, the event explores the balance between darkness and light while creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for people of all ages.
Attendees can enjoy an immersive evening featuring roving performers, live music across multiple stages, light installations, local food and beverages, and interactive activities for families. Many attendees embrace the spirit of the night by dressing in imaginative solstice-inspired costumes, adding to the event's whimsical and magical atmosphere.
More than just a winter event, Solstice in the Square celebrates community connection, creativity, and the unique character of Northern Tasmania.
