The Jim Mooney Gallery is an important part of this commitment, offering a professional space for exhibitions and creative exchange. As the gallery continues to grow, volunteers will play an important role in shaping a welcoming, vibrant cultural space and in strengthening community pride in bringing art to George Town.
Gallery minders assist by:
- Opening and closing the gallery during public hours
- Welcoming visitors and creating a friendly, inclusive atmosphere
- Keeping an eye on artworks and the gallery environment
- Sharing information about exhibitions with interested gallery goers
Gallery minders are particularly needed during featured exhibitions, including Saturdays and some Sundays, as well as weekday coverage depending on exhibition schedules.
This role would suit people who enjoy visual arts, meeting visitors, and taking an active part in the cultural life of George Town. Shifts are generally short, flexible, and scheduled around individual availability.
We warmly welcome first time volunteers, retirees, and people looking to reconnect with their community. We also welcome expressions of interest from people completing Mutual Obligation Requirements. Volunteering opportunities can be discussed in a way that supports individual requirements while providing meaningful, skills based experience within Council programs.
