The Creative George Town Gallery Program presents a six month series of contemporary art exhibitions across the first half of the calendar year. Each month features a new artist or artist pairing at either the Jim Mooney Gallery or the Watch House Gallery, showcasing thoughtful and innovative work from artists from across Tasmania as well as artists with strong connections to Kinimathatakinta (George Town).
The program brings together a wide range of artistic practices and approaches, creating regular opportunities for audiences to encounter new work and new ideas. It aims to foster meaningful connections between artists, audiences and local organisations, while also contributing to the cultural visibility of Kinimathatakinta (George Town). Through this framework the program positions contemporary art as a site for shared learning, cultural dialogue and community engagement. Each exhibition opens with an artist talk, offering viewers an opportunity to hear directly from practitioners about their ideas, processes and research interests.
