George Town Youth Strategy

Aim
To create a George Town Council Youth Strategy

Objective
Partnering with a professional service, the Youth Strategy would include consultation and development of a professionally printed document, along with media creation of the strategy.  The Youth Strategy would be assisted by members of the Youth Impact Council in its development.  Consultation will include presentations to Council and community consultation in accordance with Council's Community Consultation framework.

Background
Young people are well represented in Council’s Community Strategic Plan, however, Council has not implemented a Youth Strategy since 2018. Having a collective focus for the George Town youth will help deliver an effective models of services and actions for the municipality.  For the past 25 years, many initiatives have commenced and some good work has occurred, but there is more to do.

Since 2023, Council has utilised the work of the Our Futures Youth Project to partner and support youth initiatives established during this time.  This includes Seagulls to Chips, Youth Impact Council, Youth Voice Collection, Youth Week events, plus other initiatives. Council has also employed a 0.6 Youth Engagement Officer to further establish their commitment to youth services in George Town.  George Town Council is currently in a strong position with an established avenue of youth engagement and development to take them into the next chapter.
