Large-scale projection artwork by Darryl Rogers
Solstice in the Square will feature a large-scale projection artwork by Darryl Rogers, transforming the exterior of the Memorial Hall wall into an immersive light-based installation. Responding to seasonal change, the work will enhance the festival atmosphere, introduce digital artforms to regional audiences, and strengthen George Town’s position as a cultural destination.

2025
eVergence explores the solstice as a liminal threshold—a moment suspended between darkness and light, stillness and motion. Rooted in themes of emergence and the act of becoming, the work captures the fragile tension of being on the verge. Organic forms pulse and shift, suggesting growth, transformation, and the subtle forces that shape new realities. The solstice becomes a metaphor for transition: not an end or a beginning, but a state of unfolding. Through layered visuals and rhythmic motion, this piece invites viewers to witness the quiet power of change as it begins to stir and take shape.
This project was made possible by the Australian Government Regional Arts Fund, which supports the arts in regional and remote Australia.
