Solvent/Insolvent: A Study of Coastal Interactions via Photography

Join us for the upcoming Creative George Town exhibition. Charles Millen presents his body of work “Solvent/Insolvent: A Study of Coastal Interactions via Photography”.

  • Opening on Saturday, 7 February 2026
  • 11:00am
  • Jim Mooney Gallery, Macquarie Street, George Town

The exhibition opens with an artist talk, where Charles will share insights into his photographic process and his long engagement with the north coast of Tasmania. Creative George Town presents contemporary art in regional spaces, supporting meaningful connections between artists, audiences, and place.

“A study of coastal elemental interaction on the north coast of Tasmania through traditional black and white photography. The images are captured on a large format 4x5 field camera and then displayed as a selection of wide-format archival prints, printed & framed by the artist.

The interface between the sea and the shore is ever changing, yet unchanging to the human eye. Geological time erodes, reshapes and recreates; human time is but a glancing moment. We pass through these coastal interactions largely unaware of the profundity of what is before us and what will continue long after us.”
