Notice of Valuation from the Valuer-General

George Town Council ratepayers will shortly receive a Notice of Valuation from the Valuer General.

All properties in Tasmania are subject to the fresh valuation program. This program involves revaluating properties every six (6) years. The State Government's Office of the Valuer General is responsible for undertaking the evaluation process.

Property valuations may increase or decrease depending on factors such as property improvements, condition changes or surrounding area developments.
Updated property values are one of the factors used by Council when calculating rates.

Valuation changes don’t increase Council’s total rates revenue — they redistribute how rates are shared between properties.

Although valuations are used by Council when calculating rates, Council does not conduct the valuations and cannot change valuations. If you disagree with your valuation, please contact the Office of the Valuer General within 60 days of the date of issue on your Notice of Valuation.

If you have not received your Notice of Valuation by mid July, please contact the Office of the Valuer General directly.
