Celebrating and Acknowledging NAIDOC Week 2026

For five decades, NAIDOC Week has celebrated the voices of our communities — steady, unapologetic, and proud. Each year, its themes have called for truth, celebrated culture, honoured resistance, and reminded the nation of who we are.

Fifty Years of Deadly marks a milestone. It’s a tribute to the people who built this movement. the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up, year after year.

George Town Council welcomes our community’s attendance at these significant events, as we celebrate NAIDOC Week with our Aboriginal Community.

Smoking Ceremony, Flag Raising & Elder Tree Walk
WHEN: Monday, 6th of July | 10:30am
WHERE: Gathering Space - Regent Square
Light Refreshments Provided

The Junior Ranger Program is a culturally grounded, on-Country learning approach that strengthens young people’s identity, connection to culture and community, and pathways into the future - guided by relationships, respect, and the knowledge held by Country and community.

The Rangers will be participating in a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony and on conclusion will be offering to the public a walk around Regent Square showing how we care for and choose an Elder tree.
